Rules
The Harry Potter Trivia event is open to all ages, but those under 18 will be sent a parental consent form or must register with a parent on their team. *Note that while the event coordinators and volunteers will ensure family-friendly language and content, we cannot control fellow participants.*

To participate in the event, each individual must register and pay the entry fee ($15 for early bird entry, $25 after September 26th.)

Teams may contain up to 5 individuals, and do not have to be together in-person on the day of the event. Each individual registrant will be sent an event invitation to the zoom platform the day prior to the event. Teams may also be smaller, and individuals are welcome to register on their own.

You may not use outside resources (internet, phone a friend, cheat sheet, etc) to answer questions. All teammates must rely solely on the use of their brains, and no one outside of your team may contribute to answers. You may be removed from the event if we find you to be breaking this rule.

You may not share your zoom invitation link with anyone, and you may not have any non-registered participants watch or participate in the zoom with you.

There is no recording permitted during the event. No photography, screenshots, video or audio recording.

No arguing with the event team over the validity of answers will be permitted. We have vetted our questions carefully and are quite confident in the correct answers and what we will and will not accept. The host will be the ultimate judge and decision-maker when it comes to the answers, and teams attempting to argue with or sway the host may be removed.

Above all, though, please remember that this is a fun event that is raising money for underserved and underprivileged children and communities in PNG. We have rules to maintain order in the event, but we also want everyone to relax and HAVE FUN!

Event Schedule
Plan to sign on to the zoom 20 minutes prior to the event start time to be checked in. The event should not run longer than an hour and a half (not including the early arrival for check-in.)

Round 1
After check-in and a brief welcome, participants will be routed to zoom breakout rooms with their teammates (if applicable.) At 5 minutes past event start time, each participant will receive in their email inbox the google quiz form for the first round. While all teammates will receive the link, only the team captain should submit the quiz with the team’s answers at the end of Round 1. When time is up, breakout rooms will be closed and all will be returned to the main zoom on mute.

Scoring Intermission
We’ll have a very brief scoring intermission in order to prepare the announcement of the top teams that will advance to Round 2

Round 2
Team Captains from the teams who have advanced will, in turn, be able to select scored questions from categories on the board, similar to Jeopardy. All participants who have not advanced to Round 2 will not be required to stay, but should plan to stick around and enjoy the show! There may be a few messages from guest wizards!

Winner Announcement
Though there may only be one winning team, we hope all will find cause to celebrate and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment do I need in order to play?

We will be using the zoom platform for the event. We find that a computer (laptop or desktop) works best for the zoom format, particularly as you’ll need to open the Round 1 quiz link in a separate window. You can still participate on a tablet or phone, though, and you’re welcome to contact us for tips. We recommend you go to the zoom website and look through the tutorial if this will be your first experience with zoom.

Am I allowed to register as a 1-person team?

Absolutely! And we hope you’ll design an awesome team logo too.

Do all team members need to be in the same location during the event?

Not at all. We’ll provide breakout rooms for each team, and so you will have a private virtual space in which to discuss answers and complete Round 1. If you progress to Round 2 you will need to designate a team captain to answer on your team’s behalf.

How much time do I need to plan for?

The event itself should take 1.5 hours. Don’t forget, though, that you should plan to arrive 20 minutes prior to the event start time in order to check in. We have a lot of fun to pack into that hour and a half once we get started, though; so help us to stay on track by keeping to the rules and providing what is asked of you in a timely manner.

Is there a prize?

Yes! There is a prize that any PotterHeart will be sure to covet! But only one team will take it home.

Can I join after registration closes?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that. Be sure to register by September 26th to get early bird pricing though – $15 per person! September 27th through October 16th event registration will cost $25.
